An MT5 trading journal that syncs your trades automatically

Connect once with a read-only investor password. Every fill, partial close, swap, and commission appears in the journal in seconds. Works with retail MT5 brokers and most prop firm MT5 servers. Included in the 14-day Pro trial.

MT5 has been the default at most newer brokers and most prop firms for a few years now, but journaling tools still treat it like an afterthought. Half of them ask you to export a statement and upload it weekly. The other half handle MT4 well and fall over on MT5 hedge accounts.

We use MetaAPI under the hood. Same connection model as MT4: read-only investor password, no master credentials, no permission to place trades or withdraw funds. The Pro tier includes one live MT5 (or MT4) connection. Extra accounts are +$10/mo each.

The 14-day Pro trial includes live MT5 sync. Cancel anytime before it ends.

MetaAPI-powered

How the MT5 connection works

You give us your MT5 account number, broker server, and investor password. The investor password is read-only by design. It is exposed by the broker precisely so you can share it with auditors and journal tools without risking your account.

Setup takes about 90 seconds. Pick your broker from the dropdown, paste credentials, hit connect. The journal backfills your recent trade history on the first sync and then runs live. Every new fill appears in the dashboard within seconds.

Detail matters

MT5-specific things the journal handles

  • Position grouping by MT5 positionId, which keeps multi-fill trades and partial closes attached to the same position.
  • Partial closes logged per tranche with their own R-multiple and P&L.
  • Commission and swap pulled from the deal stream and stored separately from gross P&L.
  • Symbol normalization for broker-specific prefixes/suffixes (XAUUSD.r, EURUSD#, etc.).
  • Session, day-of-week, and time-of-day analytics that work for MT5 forex, metals, indices, and CFDs.

What works

MT5 brokers and prop firms

Most major MT5 broker servers connect cleanly through MetaAPI, including the prop firm servers from FTMO, FundedNext, MyForexFunds, and The 5%ers. Apex Trader Funding offers an MT5 product on top of its NinjaTrader option, and that MT5 path syncs.

Some brokers expose investor passwords only on request through support, which can make the first connection slow. If your broker is not in the supported list during connection, CSV import from the MT5 statement export works as a fallback.

Tip: in MT5, the investor password is set separately from the main login in the "Change Password" dialog. Generate a fresh one for the journal and you can rotate it any time without touching your trading account.
Layered rules

For prop firm traders on MT5

Most prop firms now run MT5 servers. Once the live sync is connected, Pro layers your configured rule values on top of the trade data and you get the prop firm dashboard with daily DD, trailing DD, and total loss tracking. Details on the prop firm trading journal page.

FAQ

Frequently asked

Does MT5 sync work the same way as MT4?
Yes. Both run through MetaAPI with the read-only investor password. Pick MT5 from the broker dropdown during connection and the flow is identical.
What about MT5 hedge accounts vs netting accounts?
The journal groups trades by MT5 positionId, which works cleanly for netting accounts and for most retail hedge-mode accounts where each position has a unique ID. If your MT5 broker uses an unusual hedge configuration, run a sync and confirm the trade count matches your MT5 terminal before relying on it.
Which tier includes live MT5 sync?
Pro ($55/mo) includes one live MT4 or MT5 connection. Extra MT5 connections are +$10/mo each, up to 10 accounts total. The 14-day Pro trial includes live MT5 sync. A card is required to start; cancel before day 14 and you are not charged.
Are prop firm MT5 servers supported?
Most major prop firm MT5 servers connect cleanly (FTMO, FundedNext, MyForexFunds, The 5%ers, Apex on its MT5 product). If a server is not in the supported list during connection, CSV import from the MT5 statement export works as fallback.
How are MT5 commissions tracked?
MT5 reports commissions per-trade through MetaAPI. The journal pulls them in and shows them separately from gross P&L, so you can see the real cost of trading exotic pairs or low-liquidity sessions.
